Testimonials

  • The hands on experiences at the huaka’i (field trips) were so worthwhile. They were able to experience the beauty of the 'aina and art lessons that integrated well with student learning. Students created art that made them proud as artists and they had the opportunity to present to guests and share their learning.

  • It was great that HŌ'Ā incorporated a two-visit experience. The students learned that there is always more to learn. Each time, we switched up the work and experiences, so it was a new experience every time they visited. The māla that the keiki planted is flourishing - a good hō'ailona for how the experience was.

  • I LOVED WORKING WITH HŌ'Ā & being able to share the practice of art in 'āina with the haumāna. It's truly an honor to be able to do this work.

The HŌʻĀ program has been very positive for our students. It was their first experience with arts and field trips (which is not usually the case). The students internalized a lot of things beyond what a typical field trip would provide. The integration of art, hana, song, dance, oli - all these things went together. And when they got to share their knowledge at the hō‘ike they became a type of expert. The students felt proud of not only their work, but their knowledge. In many ways, they are still internalizing things as we continue to practice them. The learning is still happening
